An award-winning comedic playwright, Matt’s plays include IN TRANSIT (FringeNYC Best Playwriting Award), THE AUDIENCE (co-author, 3 Drama Desk Award nom’s - including Best New Musical), THE STUDENT (winner, Samuel French OOB Short Play Festival), CHRISTMAS SHORTS (published by Samuel French), SEARCHING FOR GOD IN SUBURBIA (O’Neill Playwrights Conference, semi-finalist), THE GLINT and WHO YOU SEE HERE (headed for Broadway 2012 - Nelle Nugent, producer; Christopher Ashley, director.) Four of his short plays have been finalists for the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Heideman Award, and he was an Edward Albee Foundation fellow. His plays have been produced or developed by (among others) Naked Angels, the Barrow Group, the Huntington Theatre, The Acting Company, the Berkshire Playwrights Lab, the Lark, the SoHo Playhouse, the Transport Group, Maples Rep (MO), Axial Theatre Company, Bricks Theatre (WI), Phoenix Theatre (IN), Las Vegas Little Theatre (NV), Modjeska Playhouse (CA), Guild Hall, Blessed Unrest, Miranda Theatre Company, Algonquin Productions, Vital Theatre Company and more. As a screen and television writer, he has been commissioned by Garage Films to write a series of short films (including The Advantage of Truth), and he writes for the PBS children’s show Arthur. Education: MFA in Acting, UCSD; BA in playwriting, Brown University (where he was admitted into Paula Vogel’s graduate playwriting workshop as an undergrad.) Member, Dramatists Guild.
