Jane Kaczmarek stars in reading of Matt's new comedy THE NEXT BEST THING!

Tonight, Jane Kaczmarek (MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE) led a hilarious cast (Daisy Hoverman, Tamika Katon-Donegal, Peter James Smith and Amy Scribner) in a hit reading of my new comedy THE NEXT BEST THING, directed by Neel Keller, at the Outside In Theatre (LA) as part of the Playwrights Union "First Peek" Reading Series. THE NEXT BEST THING is a a comedy about the battle between an outspoken, inappropriate grandmother and the “kinder, gentler” AI android duplicate her family builds to replace her when she dies. The play asks the question not even ChatGPT can answer: should we embrace what’s difficult about the people we love – or remember only the Next Best Thing?
