Matt's Fancy Nancy ep "Joie de Jonathan" nominated for a 2022 GLAAD Award!
I'm thrilled to share that "Joie de Jonathan" - my Fancy Nancy episode about a boy who questions his joyful "fanciness" after he's challenged by two other boys - is a 2022 GLAAD Award nominee for Outstanding Children's Programming!
(This is the second time one of my Jonathan episodes was recognized by GLAAD. Last year, "Nancy Plays Dress Up" was the first Disney Junior program to ever receive a GLAAD nomination.)
This was my favorite episode I've written so far for kids TV. Please watch and share! It's Fancy Nancy S3 E6 - streaming on Disney+ and DisneyNOW - or for purchase on iTunes here.
And if you look at the list of nominees - which includes thoughtful, ground-breaking shows by my talented and huge-hearted friends on Muppet Babies, Ridley Jones, We The People and Sesame Street - you'll see what incredible gains have been made in LGBTQ+ representation in the pre-school space. For decades, these topics were considered too provocative and controversial for our young audience. Hopefully, we're moving toward a time when what we see on our TV screens positively mirrors the rich diversity we see in life - even for the young'uns.
The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ+ people and issues.
